Improving Skills Canada Alberta’s brand experience starts with building a successful digital presence.

The Project

Skills Canada Alberta is an organization helping youth across the province gain valuable skills and experience in a trade or technology based career. Their challenge was improving the user experience for students and educators to learn and gather resources about various careers in the trades and technology industry. KEEN transformed Skills Canada Alberta’s digital presence through its website, creating a functional tool to increase the program’s awareness and provide a smooth experience to existing users.

Skills Canada Alberta came to KEEN to improve the non-profit organization’s brand perception through its digital presence. KEEN worked closely with Skills Canada Alberta to completely overhaul its website. Our team kicked off the project with a workshop to collaborate with the Skills Canada Alberta team on website layout and user experience. The new website adopted a bold new aesthetic, with bright colours and graphics to add youthful energy and encourage engagement from users. To simplify the process for Skills Canada Alberta’s largest event, KEEN developed a custom website for filtering competition events schedules, results and in addition a robust database of skills and educational resources. Upon the launch of the new, faster and easier-to-navigate website, Skills Canada Alberta saw higher social media engagement, an increase in visits and a decrease in bounce rate. With the improved navigation, they saw an improvement in the overall user experience as engagement score also rose, indicating a positive reception of the new site design and information. KEEN strategically designed the website to allow add-ons to improve the user experience. The improvements included a Shopify integration for educators to access workshop program resources and an event website with a map integration for users to see an overview of the provincial competitions. We’ve built a collection of assets to work in conjunction with the digital presence of Skills Canada Alberta. This includes competition event photography and instructional videos for Try-A-Trade, GETT, and Skills Exploration Days. With the solid foundation that KEEN paved for Skills Canada Alberta, the organization can reach its audience in new ways and improve its reputation through digital media.
