fRI Research EBM

Creating Advocates

Web UX testing and prototyping helped fRI Research create new champions for the environment.

The Project

We partnered with the fRI’s Healthy Landscapes Program to create a new website, presenting Ecosystem Based Management (EBM) as a viable and aspirational approach to caring for Canada’s boreal forest. KEEN did so by providing an easy-to-use platform for users to learn about EBM and present examples of research, collaborations, and demonstrations that show how and why EBM is an essential solution.

fRI Research is a leader in science for land and resource management in Western Canada and beyond. They came to us looking for a website that could present the organization and the work that they do in a digestible, easy-to-connect way. We partnered with fRI’s Healthy Landscapes Program to create a new website with the goal of presenting Ecosystem Based Management (EBM) as a viable and aspirational approach to caring for Canada’s boreal forest. Prior to development, KEEN went through planning, design, and prototyping stages with industry experts to test whether the concept of EBM was being clearly communicated, and easy to understand users regardless of their prior knowledge of the subject. We started with an extensive UX Session to plan and explore how best to communicate the concept of EBM to both forestry insiders and outsiders. Our collaborative approach allowed the client to manipulate and add their own notes and comments directly into the wireframes to ensure that the site was digestible on multiple levels. Healthy Landscapes EBM provided KEEN the opportunity to learn about the exploration of knowledge and improvements within the forestry industry. In turn KEEN provided the client with a full experience through our strategy, design, and development process.
